#veterans #veteran's day #veteransdayWe wanted to thank all Veterans and those who are currently serving our country for their service.
We are continuing our efforts to protect seniors, veterans, and the disabled from benefit cuts. The Chained CPI which is being proposed by some in Washington will cut #SocialSecurity benefits for all Americans.
Social Security is the largest program serving veterans and their families. Over 9 million veterans receive Social Security benefits—four out of ten veterans. The chained CPI will be a double benefit cut for veterans who receive both Social Security and VA benefits.
U.S. Rep. Allyson Y. Schwartz (PA-13) today led 117 U.S. Representatives in urging President Obama to rule out cuts to Social Security and veterans’ benefits in his budget proposal for next year.
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today strongly disagreed with a proposal by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to cut Social Security and disabled veterans’ benefits to pay for more defense spending.
Ryan has resurrected a discredited plan to change the formula that the federal government uses for calculating annual cost-of-living adjustments. According to published reports, Ryan said he wants to boost the Pentagon budget by taking what he called “savings” in Social Security and other programs pegged to annual adjustments in the consumer price index.
Chained CPI back in discussions? We shouldn’t be talking about cutting benefits, we should be talking about BOOSTING benefits for all working Americans.
As Veterans Day is approaching, it is important that veterans’ benefits and Social Security are protected.
Keep the Promise. Americans oppose cutting benefits earned by middle-class families. The Chained CPI isn’t a “tweak” it’s a benefit cut America’s retirees, veterans and the disabled simply cannot afford.
The National Committee has joined forces with veterans and disability organizations to call on Congress to say NO to Chained CPI.

Draft legislative language released by the House Social Security Subcommittee last night would cut benefits for millions of middle-class and poor Americans still struggling in this economy by adopting a new formula to calculate cost of living adjustments. NCPSSM President, Max Richtman, reacted this way:
Let’s be clear. The millions of disabled veterans and seniors living on fixed incomes. The Chained CPI is not a minor tweak. It is a significant benefit cut that will make it harder for permanently disabled veterans and the elderly to feed their families, heat their homes, pay for their prescription drugs and make basic ends meet.

Seniors went to Capitol Hill earlier this month to tell Congress why their current #SocialSecurity benefits are inadequate. Boost Social Security Now! https://www.ncpssm.org/campaigns/boost-social-security-now/ @RepJohnLarson
