The books housed at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum were apart of FDR’s personal library of over 22,000 volumes. He personally selected the volumes to be stored here.
FDR collected works of literature, history, economics, politics, and biography, as well as miniature books, children’s books, and mystery novels. He had a particular interest in books about his native Dutchess County and the American sailing navy. A knowledgeable collector in these areas, he searched catalogs and book seller inventories for titles to add to his library. Many were also given to him as gifts. It was his custom to sign and date the inside of his books when he acquired them, and he even designed a special book plate for his Naval Collection.
During the 1950s-1960s SSA published a series of comic books on Social Security-related topics, in an effort to reach the youth audience, which in those days used comic books as their hottest medium of communication.

Besides the fun of feeling like a 5-year-old again, coloring books are said to promote mindfulness and reduce stress. It’s really no wonder everyone loves them. In a recent study published in the journal Art Therapy, it was revealed that coloring stimulates an important stress-inhibiting mechanism in the human body.

Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii was sworn in as the first Japanese-American to serve in the U.S. Senate 55 years ago on January 9, 1963. Having earlier been elected as Hawaii’s first member in the House of Representatives in 1959, Inouye served in Congress for over 50 years until his death in 2012.
