#senator #bernie sanders #politics #social security #sherrod brownWe recently had an event on Capitol Hill where we delivered over 65,000 petitions to Members of Congress about not cutting Social Security and Medicare. Senator Sherrod Brown and Senator Bernie Sanders was there to share a few words about these programs.
Senator Sherrod Brown was joined by National Committee members Regina Duffey, Sam Burnett, Nancy Wells and State Director, Shawn Phetteplace, at a press conference on Monday. Senator Brown reiterated his strong opposition to cuts to Social Security and Medicare. In 2011, Senator Brown introduced a bill to increase the COLA to keep up with inflation, and has been a strong, determined leader for seniors, the disabled, and veterans. We appreciate the Senator’s support for these vital lifelines for millions of Ohioans.
Asking the wealthiest Americans to contribute more into Social Security, would not only extend the solvency of Social Security through 2060, it also would allow Social Security benefits to be expanded for millions of Americans.
Senator Sherrod Brown on Social Security and Medicare.
There is a quiet, covert war being waged on Social Security. The tactic? Divide and conquer.
Senator Bernie Sanders has circulated a dear colleague letter in the Senate declaring that Social Security benefit cuts should NOT be a part of any deficit so-called “Grand Bargain” destined to be the focal-point of this fall’s lame duck Congressional session. Sen. Sanders is the founder of the Senate’s Defending Social Security Caucus, and organized this effort with the help of Senators Begich (D-AK), Franken (D-MN) and Whitehouse (D-RI).
Expand Social Security.
Today, we held an event where we delivered 2 million signatures to the Senate!
We were joined by Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. Both Senators stressed how important it is to protect and strengthen Social Security & Medicare for all beneficiaries.
Senator Bernie Sanders discusses the senior vote on MSNBC.
“Medicare and Social Security are not handouts. You’ve paid into these programs all your life. You’ve earned them.” - President Barack Obama
