Millennials Favor Preserving Social Security Over Reducing Deficit, Despite Skepticism: Pew Poll.
On a separate polling question, 60 percent of young adults under age 30 agreed the “government has the responsibility to care for those who need assistance,” slightly higher than the rate for older Americans, according to Pew. The polling results come from a Nov. 28 to Dec. 5 survey among a nationally representative sample of 2,511 adults.

MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry started randomly speaking about Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid in a student debt discussion. This resulted in wrong information and misleading stats.
The only way these vital programs won’t be available to millennials is if they let it be taken from them.
The Great Recession spared no one, but it fell especially hard on millennials. They suffered the highest unemployment rates, which academic evidence shows this will permanently reduce their wages. In the meantime, student debt has skyrocketed to record levels. The result: Their greatest financial hardship may come decades from now, when they retire.
As it gets harder to save for retirement, it’s important that safety nets like Social Security and Medicare are preserved and strengthened for future generations.
The annual Social Security and Medicare trustees report was just released, and it will presumably inspire the predictable scaremongering about those programs by many in the media and in politics. We’ll be told that those programs are running out of money, that they’re going to go bankrupt, and that they’ll be insolvent.
