Typography Tuesday, kind of…
OK, this is hand lettering and not exactly typography. The argument being that in hand lettering you create the letter/character as you go and in typography, the letter/character is premade. However, both arts need to have an understanding of how letterforms are constructed and how those forms fit together in a space. Discuss.
The image above is a photograph of from the Layton School of Art & Design Records, 1888-1980 and shows a person practicing a specific hand lettering style. There is no name or date identification accompanying the photo but we are assuming that this experience was part of the commercial art curriculum.
