Yesterday, National Committee volunteers demonstrated at the National Press Club where deficit hawks were meeting to discuss the national debt and health care policy. Volunteers made sure to tell them to protect Social Security and not to make cuts to the program.

On Friday, the National Committee kicked off the Truth Tour. We traveled through Ohio to Marietta, Canton, and Toledo to speak with audiences about the importance of preserving Social Security & Medicare but also telling them the dangers of the Romney/Ryan plan. We heard from many speakers and then spoke to attendees about their personal stories.
Jon Bauman, “Bowzer” from Sha Na Na spoke at each event and let individuals know that turning Medicare into a voucher program and privatizing Social Security is not the answer to fixing these programs. He also shared his 65th birthday with everyone and signed up for Medicare!

We have worked for our Medicare; we have paid for our Medicare; and we have earned our Medicare. I’m proud to have been born the same year that Social Security was. It was the most important law of my lifetime. Medicare was pretty great too. And now we have Obamacare, which preserves the promise of Medicare and a secure retirement.
